SHAMEL PITTS WINS 2018 PRINCESS GRACE AWARD IN CHOREOGRAPHY

CHOREOGRAPHY FELLOWSHIP WILL SUPPORT NEW WORK FOR GIBNEY DANCE COMPANY

Shamel Pitts has received a 2018 Princess Grace Award in Choreography, becoming part of a wonderfully diverse and inspiring group of working artists who have also received this award.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) is a non-profit, publicly-supported charity, headquartered in New York City and established 36 years ago by Prince Rainier III of Monaco to honor his wife, Princess Grace’s [Kelly] legacy.

Their mission is to identify and assist emerging talent in theater, dance, and film by awarding grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships.

Pitts has plans to utilize it within the community by creating a new choreographic work, entitled Menagerie, at Gibney Dance Company (GDC)  to be premiered next fall in New York City.

Please check out the interview  with GDC’s Co-Director Nigel Campbell and about this award fellowship.
